 Festival is an entertaining slice-of-life comedy pastiche of the Edinburgh Festival giving the outsider a chance to see what is really going on behind the scenes. Its complete with arty young wannabees trying to make a name for themselves, seen-it-all cynical production managers, primadonna A-list performers, a group of off-the-wall North American pretentious artists and a young Radio reporter (Nardini) trying to make a name for herself on the media side.
It begins well with plenty to laugh about as characters clash and the stand-up routines don't kick into gear quite as they should. The film also manages to capture the anarchic spirit of the festival well, with folks on street corners trying to hook an audience and showing how often, everyday actions become funny. It's let down only in that it seems to lose tempo in the final third, when the jokes begin to fall flat. Griffin though shows promise as a director and a good idea here is given reasonable execution by a semi-well known cast that Griffin has done well to bring together, they in turn bring out the best in the material.
